Detailed Search

General Usage

Use the detailed search to perform a detailed search by specific parameters. If you know the student's name, that is all that needs to be entered. A partial first name may be entered, such as 'Jo' for 'John'. A complete last name is required. Names are not necessarily unique, so multiple search results may be found.

Examples of valid detailed searches: All male students attending college in Connecticut studying mechanical engineering who will graduate in 2012. Another example could be all students with a last name of Smith attending UCLA. It may be necessary to adjust the search criteria if the results are too broad or too narrow. Search queries are limited to 100 results to minimize server impact.

All parameters specified in the detailed search are used in an 'AND' operation, not an 'OR' operation, with the exception of Keywords (see below). This means, for example, that if you specify 'Smith' for a last name and 'female' for the gender, the search will find all female students who have a last name of Smith.

Keywords

Use the Keywords field to perform more localized searches. For illustration, performing the search described above with basketball entered in the keywords field will return all male students attending college in Connecticut studying mechanical engineering who will graduate in 2012 who also have the word basketball in their profile. This could be a student attending college on a basketball scholarship, or someone who played basketball in high school, for example.

To locate a specific keyword phrase, such as basketball scholarship, the phrase needs to be surrounded by double-quote marks as in "basketball scholarship". Without double-quotes, the search will return all profiles that contain either basketball or scholarship anywhere in the profile. Using the double quotes will return only profiles that contain both basketball and scholarship, in that order with a single space between them.
